Basic Education

Education is the right of every citizen and every new birth deserves basic education. The main field where Vikiran works is child education. We reach children from marginalized communities and backward economic sections of society, enrol them with schools, teach them, train them with vocational skills helpful in generating incomes and do career related councelling for them. We ensure that children at least complete their schooling and pass higher secondary level of examination. Our focus is not only to make children pass the higher secondary level exam, but also to empower them with relevant skills in this rapidly changing world so that they can achieve a financially healthy life.

Currently we are working in Wazirabad, New Delhi and Netarhat, Jharkhand.

Wazirabaad Story

We started our journey from Wazirabad, New Delhi in July 2017. There was a large number of girls who could not continue their schooling after class 9th or 10th. We started teaching these girls, enrolled them in schools and CBSE and by the end of the next two years all of those girls passed the 10th board with good scores. These girls then took admission in class 11th and restarted their schooling. Meanwhile, apart from daily classes in Vikiran, they were trained with several vocational skills in order to help them in being financially empowered and in order to boost their confidence. We are extremely proud and happy to say that all of these girls passed the 12th board with excellent scores. Today some of these girls can be seen on various campuses of Delhi University. This is important here to state that these girls are first from their families to reach any university. Distance-wise Wazirabad is not far from the DU campus but if we look carefully, the way which leads these girls to such campuses is not actually easy. This was the story of the first batch of girls we started working with in Wazirabad. The journey continued in the similar fashion with so many new children and we have so many similar inspiring stories to tell.

Hamara Shikshapeeth (Netarhat)

Since June 2021, we have been working in Netarhat (Jharkhand), under a new project named, “Hamara Shikshapeeth”, which is focused and dedicated to the education of the tribal and primitive tribal children. The main goal of “Hamar Shikshapeeth” is to create awareness about education amongst the local people, provide the correct information and guideline, bring kids to school, and get those children back, who have left the schools. Keeping all these goals in mind several events are being organized like stationary drives, picnics in various villages, sports competitions at the village level, meetings with the parents, etc. This program started with 3 kids and today it has reached 27 children. This number might look small, but achieving even this was not an easy task. We are expecting a continuous increase in this number.

We have developed our center in Paseripaat village for the children from different villages to come and study together. Apart from the teaching sessions, we visit local schools in order to provide career counseling to children of class 10th and 12th. What we have understood about such remote locations is that limitation of information and guidance about career is the primary hindrance on the way of education and we are continuously trying to reach more schools for such sessions. Some of these schools are very remotely located with no roads and other basic infrastructure, reaching and executing our plans where is a challenging task, but the way we are making our progress is a source of immense hope. We strongly believe that soon we will be able to make significant positive change in the field of education in the entire plateau of Netarhat.
